Spirit of the Beehive is a Philadelphia/Lisbon-based band made up of Zack Schwartz, Rivka Ravede, and Corey Wichlin. You might be familiar if you checked out our Best Music of 2024 list, where our friend Clarke/Pleasure Systems described them as “a once-a-generation talent with an uncanny ability to mine the darkest undercurrents of the human psyche and craft something fresh, something beautiful, and something surprisingly, disarmingly hopeful out of it.” Spirit of the Beehive has put out numerous sick projects in the last few years, the most recent being last year’s YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING, which you can check out here. Lucky for us, the band is here to tell us what they’ve been into.

Fast track lane at Lisbon airport

I spend an intolerable amount of time in airports and I will take every single short cut I can take when traveling to make my life less painful. I’m hesitant to share this because this is somehow still a big secret and if this becomes fucked up because I told this publication about it I’m going to kill myself but something Noah and I have accidentally stumbled upon is the sparsely utilized fast track lane. After you check into your flight online, go onto the Lisbon airport website and there is a link for the fast track. It’s only 9 euros and it is worth it. You get through security in 2 minutes and when you get a dub at the airport it’s like the greatest dub you could get from god -Rivka

Dead Space remake

Im a big fan of horror games and this has really been scratching the itch I’ve had since playing resident evil 4. I am really bad at this game, it’s fucking hard and I am already bad at video games. It’s really fun though, even if it does have all this stupid shit written in blood all over the walls like “it’s ok to be fucked up” like shut upppppp -Rivka

Nosferatu the Vampyre, 1979 by Werner Herzog

This movie is so incredible, klaus kinski is both horrifying and unintentionally hilarious. His dumb little teeth, the scene where he runs through the town at night in such an insane way and every time he’s in the shadows creeping around. Amazing performance, I don’t know if that kid from skins has what it takes to top kinski but we’ll see. -Rivka

Splitting the G

go to the bar, get a draft guinness in a branded pint glass and drink to the middle line of the “G” in 3 sips. if you miss the line, you can get another one and try again. If you get it dead on you can celebrate by getting another one. -Corey

The helicopter footage of the 1997 north Hollywood shootout

im sure this is already a widely known piece of footage and i am just late to the party here. Nothing happens for like the first 9 minutes of this video, but basically this is a pretty wild continuous shot of a bank robbery attempt by 2 guys that are armed to the teeth. Its kinda like Michael Mann’s “Heat” if there were less guys involved and there were no great asses. I’ll give ya one guess what happens at the most replayed section of this video. -Corey

Eating poison ivy to become immune to it ?

somehow at least once a year poison ivy gets me. 2 days ago i was told if you eat a poison ivy bud in spring that you will be immune to poison ivy for that year. to be clear, this sounds like bullshit and i would recommend you do not do that. i even googled it and some doctor says it is “dangerous and stupid”. but i do really love the idea of that working and if anyone tries it please let me know what happens. -Corey
