Whilst I don’t care for what TikTok is doing to attention spans, The harm Facebook and Twitter cause is immeasurable. If we dont ban them the whole thing just reeks of economic and cultural warfare. The whole pretense was data security and privacy, despite the servers being operated stateside by an American company. The whole thing feels disingenuous, if it were about ideals they would look quite hypocritical by not banning the cancer that is FB, Twitter, IG, etc. Make no mistake this is about capital and influence, not the children.
mickchicken I so agree with you. all they’re doing is creating room honestly for more harmful social media creations to fur their agenda
i watched a youtube vid the other day titled “this video is about brain rot“ and i definitely agree that people’s inability to detach from their phones and TikTok’s role in that addiction is far more serious than people make it out to be. there’s also something to be said about american corporations such as meta and google trying to push a foreign corporation out of the social media market in order to monopolize it. and the increased use of sinophobic propaganda to do it. idk… as much as I don’t like tiktok, I dont like these implications either.
knitzsche I totally agree. There is an ulterior motive to what they’re doing. this ultimately will open the gateway for social media to be a floodpool of brainrot that no one can pull away from. at the end of the day social media is no longer about mere connections.

There ain't gonna be much of a difference all the tiktok stuff will just migrate to reels and make the app even worse
