So we all think it’s sketchy that Tik Tok is already back right? And that they posted a statement kissing Trump’s ass and making him out to be the one saving Tik Tok when he isn’t even sworn in yet? And now Trump wants the US government to have a 50% ownership, aka turning Tik Tok into state owned media just like I thought was happening. And I’m sure most people won’t be able to stay away from Tik Tok and Meta which is so disappointing. I want nothing to do with Tik Tok now because I know the app as we knew it is already gone at this point.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure that a backdoor seal has already been completed between TikTok & Trump. Here’s the evidence: 1.) Shou publicly thanked President Trump on Friday 1/17 for working to save TikTok. That felt like a real slap in the face 2.) It‘s odd that he thanked Trump on Friday, but the App still went down overnight. As someone who works in IT, I am fairly certain that data was probably being migrated to a Meta Serve. If not then they were definitely sandboxing for when the news goes public. 3.) Today the most obvious piece of propaganda hit 170 million Americans in face thanking Trump for his efforts. 4.) Facebook make a TikTok account on 1/19 for the first time ever 5.) People have been receiving the prompt to be able to connect their TikTok to Facebook. In conclusion, we’re cooked chat. This is some CIA level psy-op because now people are confused and don’t know what source of information to trust or the validity of things. The confusion is enough to destroy any idea of protesting.

dovensnake Oh yeah, there’s no doubt in my mind because I’ve seen all of that too, but also I don’t know if everyone has noticed but for at least the last month my algorithm has been weird. Like I’m talking at some points I would get several videos in a row that I had already seen and sometimes already liked or liked comments on. I’m almost wondering if they were already changing the algorithm in preparation for a sale with a new algorithm and not their original one, or if they were just prepping for some form of whatever merger or partnership/co-ownership we’re about to see.

All of this was planned. The law says that TikTok gets a 90 day waver to find a buyer. So they threw up that lockout page just to a) freak users out and make them withdraw b) then use it to make Trump feel big by thanking him in the app. It's clearly being used in concert with the state now.

I know they should have waited longer to bring it back I feel like that would have been a better scam now I know I’ve been scammed and I feel dumb and don’t want to reward them for that political theater… I’ve already grieved TikTok and moved on and I’m ready to be done with it

isabellaceleste I also already feel so done with it. And I imagine sometime within the next four months (I’m thinking in quarterly terms because of stocks and investors) we’ll start to see the changes roll out that will allow them to continue operating in the US. I’m imagining if it isn’t outright in relation to Meta, it will have changes to the privacy policy, terms and conditions, etc. that we’ll have to SEARCH through to figure some of it out, and it’ll probably do what Meta already does and start being creepy with our info and data.

I agree it’s definitely sketchy. I don’t plan on keeping TikTok for long because of this, but I still find it to be the most reliable app for finding small Businesses to support in my area. personally I stopped using TTS, I’m done with doom scrolling, but for now I’ll use it to find places to break my reliance on products from Amazon and Walmart.

jazzyrice for the most part, I’m definitely trying to cut back on my spending overall this year, and if I HAVE to buy new things it will be from small independent businesses too!

I’ve heard people say that moving to RedNote is the next logical step, will be very interesting to see how much (if at all) TikTok changes after inauguration day.

wakeuplmd I’m guessing itll be sometime in the next 4 months that we’ll see either a big change/purchase/merger, or it’ll start with subtle changes like things to the privacy policy/terms and conditions to start. But definitely within the next 4 months I’m thinking because of quarterly reports for stocks and investors.

totally agree, it's such a sick game that they're playing right now. i felt so free deleting all meta from my phone and even tiktok. because even if he does "save it" i want nothing to do with it. it's already ruined

radiant_r4ve_bab3 100% with you, and it did feel freeing! I’m looking forward to spending my time doing things I enjoy again and using simple social media like this and pixelfed that aren’t ad-filled, video and meme filled, etc. that are fun and don’t make me prone to “doomscrolling”.

saylor i completely agree! this whole situation is a great excuse to break my brain rot habit… im going to use the time i would’ve spent on tiktok/insta to read, watch movies, play with my cats, go on walks, journal, learn Spanish , hell ANYTHING but the endless scroll

beyblade69 we need more people like you. Willing to change, not just jump to a next app. I recommend you read about law. It will take you far in life. And it’s funny. I’ve read plenty of cases where I’ve just had to sit back and laugh.

beyblade69 Yes! I already read and knit a lot but now I’ll have more time for that, and I’ve been focusing on things like making my own clothes especially from upcycling materials which is so fun, and improving in Italian. I highly recommend gardening if you have the space for it or even growing potted herbs and cooking with what you grow! It’s so enriching and being outside while doing it is so nice, my pollinator and herb garden (I call it my fairy garden) is my favorite thing lol.

Yeah,I feel like the TikTok algorithm is absolutely going to change for the worse, even if it gets reinstated. I already felt a shift close to when it got banned. There were way more ads every few scrolls, and I was getting recommended more generally viral videos (what we called "straight people TikTok back in 2020) instead of specifically tailored content. Some people theorized that they were already testing a new algorithm before trying to sell it, and you could definitely feel the shift. I think if it comes back, it will be a much less enjoyable experience and the censorship will be worse. I don't wanna deal with whatever Trump's version of it is. :(

gforce2001 I agree that the algorithm is going to change, and honestly you’re right it did feel different toward the end anyway. Too many times to be coincidental I would get several videos in a row on my fyp that I had seen months prior and sometimes even already liked or liked comments on. If it truly is meta they’re working with I want nothing to do with it, and if it’s Trump or the US gov I’ll want even less to do with it.

I'm often accused of being an "old soul", a categorization I vehemently dislike because it pretends as if my taste is because of nostalgia, as opposed to what is actually cool and compelling. (If something cool comes out now, I enjoy it, but we're in a down period when it comes to culture). But, something old about me, is that I do not care at all about TikTok ending, if does happen. If Elon takes it over from the Chinese, you might as well leave anyway, but I'm just worried at why this is a huge deal for people. It's just an app. Another one will be made. TikTok is not culture, it directly flattens culture into these ten second clips that take music, movies --- things that you need to process --- into something that is now consumed by everyone at a rapid pace, not allowing for the nuances, the style, the aesthetics to sit with us. I have never watched something on TikTok and thought that this is something in that pushing American culture to deeper heights. I am sorry. Now I am sure they're good stuff on the app, but it's not really a necessity. Whenever I hear the words "it's blowing up on TikTok", my mind immediately growls. I understood why X becoming overrun with Elon bots and right wingers is a big deal; X actually created things, made careers, made American life, and American events available to be seen by everyone. However, TikTok is a corrupt fantasy, chopping at the wires that make physical connection important. Read a book! Go to the movies! Go to the restaurant of a cuisine that is unheralded, go to a baseball game. Who cares about TikTok?

I actually hope TikTok does get permanently banned. This generation needs to be rid of this brain rot. I keep going back to it but I have high hopes this time. I deleted my account and as a form of entertainment now Im using YouTube and snap.

There’s something about the quality of digital camera photos that make a picture of anything you take look more pleasing (to me anyway). The nostalgia, the saturation, I love them. I have a couple cameras that still work from when I was a kid, but I also bought one on eBay that was similar to one that used to be a favorite of mine. I just throw it in my purse and take it everywhere, and it’s so much more fun than trying to get the “perfect shot,” especially now that I’ve deleted Meta and gone with Pixelfed it seems that people love posting anything from the little things they see or their drinks. It’s making photo sharing fun again! Although, if you do download Pixelfed (which isn’t the point of this post but) I highly recommend using it in your browser on your phone for now, they’ve already made things run smoother from when I first downloaded but they’re definitely still working on the app.

Pasta is so much simpler to make than people online will have you believe. This is going to be ingredients, helpful notes, and clearing up a couple misconceptions real quick: 1. You don’t have to only use egg yolks when making a pasta dough. It can make a silky dough that’s rich in color, but for some people using minimum of 5 yolks to a recipe but not having a use for the whites isn’t realistic. If you have a use for the whites like merengue or omelettes, etc. then go for it, but you can totally just use whole eggs, people have been doing it for a long time and making great pasta. 2. You don’t have to only use a special flour like 00, you can use all purpose flour. Don’t let the internet pasta police tell you otherwise or deter you. This is a basic pasta recipe that can really be used for any shape, uses whole eggs, and is pretty easy. All you need is flour, eggs, salt, and olive oil. Ingredients: 2 cups flour  3 eggs (or 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tbsp of olive oil I’m going to put a picture on this rec of a well made in the middle of the flour with some egg yolks in the middle for an example not to show this recipe, completely different recipe lol. Then you’ll add your olive oil and salt. You’ll want to start by using a fork to mix the eggs or yolks together and slowly bring in flour to mix together until the eggs are incorporated enough to not be too sticky and then you can go in with your hands. I like to make the well in the middle of the flour pretty wide because if it’s too small/bowl-like and you knock a side down the eggs will pour out the side away from the flour. You could follow along the steps in a pasta video online and just use the ingredients and measurements I have listed if you want something simple but want to visualize the steps better. You’ll want to mix everything together until a dough is formed, and you want to be able to knead the dough on your flat surface for at least a few minutes so if it’s too sticky add a little flour and if it’s too dry get your hands a little wet before kneading. Kneading can take a few minutes up to ten minutes, you’ll want to keep at it until the ball of dough is “springy” when you press a finger down on one spot. When you think it’s ready and in a good ball shape press your finger down a bit and watch to see if the area you pressed starts to move back to the shape it was initially. When the dough is ready you’ll want to wrap it in plastic or a ziplock or whatever you have so it doesn’t dry out and let it rest for 30 minutes. Great time to figure out what shape you want or get other ingredients together for what you’re making. When the dough is rested you’ll want to flour your surface and unwrap the dough, cut it in halves or quarters whatever is most manageable for the size of your dough ball, and leave all the parts you aren’t actively rolling wrapped up until you get to each one so it doesn’t dry out. If you have a pasta machine rolling it out will be easier, if not you can totally use a rolling pin and look online to see how you can cut some basic shapes. You’ll want to roll until the dough is thin enough that you can pick it up, put your hand behind it, and see your hand pretty well through the rolled pasta dough. Cooking fresh pasta is way quicker than dried pasta. For most pasta shapes if you roll them out pretty thin they’ll be cooked in anywhere from 2-5 minutes once you drop them in boiling water. I think that’s all of the most basic on this! If anyone gets through all this and successfully makes pasta you’ll definitely have to update me.

So many people are so scared to do things on their own, but it can be so fun and liberating! I’m my own favorite travel partner. You can try fun places without worrying about what someone else is in the mood for, meet so many people, people watch, read, visit museums Or other stops and take all the time you want, etc. I think a lot of people care too much about what others think when they’re seen doing something or dining alone, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. Starting out, go to a restaurant that has a bar and sit at the bar, you can enjoy your food and maybe a drink, if you get anxious about people talking to you or aren’t having fun people watching, take up watching the sports on the tv to look occupied! Or maybe your solo outing could first be taking yourself on a museum date and getting to spend as much time as you want in each exhibit.
