MGNA Crrrta is a New York City-based electropop duo comprised of Ginger Scott and Farheen Khan, who have probably played more Perfectly Imperfect shows than any one else. I fell in love with their Kesha meets Crystal Castles sound after hearing “Girl Party” and “iWanna” on their debut EP Constitution 2. It was clear that they were throwing ideas at the wall in a way that was creating magic, looking back on the era that soundtracked my High School dances with fresh eyes and a sense of humor. This is most apparent on “JFK-LAX,” which deserves to be massive, and on their two recent singles, “@ Night” and “Ohyaaa,” which lean further into 2010s EDM. At times the electroclash-revival scene can feel bogged down by overly mysterious personalities, and I’m glad MGNA Crrrta is here to make it more fun. Catch them live with Eartheater, RXKNephew, Underscores, and more, at HERE FOR NY, a festival we’re co-presenting this weekend at Knockdown Center. Lucky for us, Ginger and Farheen are here to tell us what they’re into.
