Cry hard, cry loud, cry in private, in public, cry when you need to cry. I spent decades of my life suppressing all my emotions and pretending to not have feelings at all! Unless something life altering and catastrophic happened, like a death, major fight/breakup, or nightmare panic attack, I just shut down. But in my late twenties and now early thirties I’ve opened up the floodgates and cry cathartically multiple times a week. Typing this out does sound like I’m unstable, and maybe I am, but crying is proven to help you self-soothe, recover from grief, detoxify, dull pain, and improve mood by releasing stress hormones. Crying and laughing and laughing until you cry and crying until you laugh. So if you feel a cry coming, don’t suppress it!!!

I do it a lot. I feel like it’s a great release man. When I was younger I just kept things bottled up (Where I’m from you kinda had to, can’t look weak). Now that I’m older I do it as much as I can man. It’ll kill you if you just let things build up and nobody wants to be that guy trust me. Let that shit out, I genuinely believe crying keeps you around longer.

Truly wish someone would have told me years ago it’s okay to cry when the feelings hit—why hold that shit in? Let it flow!

If you’re from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Don’t! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, it’s worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

A delicious, page turning Summer read and debut from novelist Nicola Dinan. It unpacks so many complicated nuances of being queer and in your twenties. Romantic, sexy, vulnerable. First romance centring a transfemme I’ve read and loved published on a larger scale.

It’s actually terrifying at first, but even around the block it’s clarifying and helps me reset. I’ll literally walk out of my office and walk around the block phoneless and count pigeons to get back in my body and press restart.
