Getting shit framed is, by a wide margin, the most adult thing I do. It’s luxurious! I started framing magazines I’d written cover stories for — silly, stupidly celebratory — and now I frame movie posters and stills. (I’m addicted to Posteritati.) Framing is more than an errand, it’s a ritual. It’s a way of saying: “I love this $100 and a custom cut piece of glass-worth.” I go to Framebridge because it’s closest to my apartment.

One of my flatmates recently discovered a cheap framing shop near to where we live. Now, I have become obsessed with framing everything. I'm currently waiting on a print of The Red Shoes I got at the BFI to be framed in this gorgeous silver metal. Framing is great. Daydreaming about what you'd frame, how you'd frame it, picking the framed thing up. It's all amazing.

I went to my friend Matthew’s place years ago and he’d covered his walls in frames filled with small moments like a receipt from a first date, a number on a bar napkin, a hole in his wall – Years later, cities later, it’s my favorite way to fill my walls. I just picked up a crazy shadow box frame for a deck of cards I randomly got at David Blaine’s house one bizarre night last year.

I’ve been hoarding posters and things to display because I don’t have the proper frames to hang them up. Decided to just stick them on the wall. Feels good, exercising the ole free will.

Something I think about a lot is a W Magazine interview where Annette Bening lists her favorite emojis: “I’ve been using that loudspeaker one. It means I’m making noise about something.” It means I’m making noise about something! That sentence is magic. My favorite emoji is the one that’s the silhouette of a person running their mouth — it means I’m gossiping, hollering, giving instructions or delivering a demand. A store in Greenpoint that feels like a Nora Ephron column. It sells “dinner and party essentials,” which means: caviar, tinned fish, various prosciuttos and cheeses, kooky drinkware, these gluten free crackers I love that don’t taste gluten free. Also: Big Night is the title of a very good Stanley Tucci movie.

Gross, but: I love seeing aestheticians post gnarly extractions on Instagram. While scrolling through the #extractions hashtag a few months ago, I realized that car detailers use the hashtag too. Watching these people suction years worth of dirt and grime out of car seats is my favorite smooth brain activity. I don’t have a car! I (can but) don’t drive! I don’t even know how you get a car so dirty!
