It replaces a kettle because you only have to fill it once and it keeps water at a set boiling temperature indefinitely. The fancier ones come with extra settings for the real tea nerds who are particular about their brewing temperatures.

Hot water, on demand. You donā€™t know how much you need it until you have it. The off-brand is fine.

it can hold cold OR warm liquids and insulates really well! they come in multiple sizes and lids but i like 32oz because i basically have to drink two fills a day and thatā€™s easy to remember (and i prefer spout lid bc itā€™s easier to clean than the straw one imo). in terms of other hydration tips i like the app ā€œwaterllamaā€ (lol) for reminders and tracking my water intake, & if i donā€™t want just ā€œplainā€ water iā€™ll also have an herbal non-caff tea or a seltzer during the day :)

Itā€™s at 100 Bowery, more on the fringes of Chinatown and not on one of the major tourist streets. Genuine Cantonese ā€œhole-in-the-wallā€ kind of place. You will not find a single non-Chinese person in there at any given time (except the handful of friends Iā€™ve turned onto it). Sweet hardworking staff, super affordable, probably in danger of going out of business like a lot of the other old school Cantonese places in Chinatown. If you go, order Mushroom E Fu Noodles (Yi Mien) and Snow Pea Shoots with garlic.

Knowing another language is awesome. It gives you a slice of omnipotence. Once you become fluent in a language, thereā€™s no translation time in your mind- you donā€™t have to hear the word and go ā€œoh this means thisā€. The word just is- you hear it and it instantly registers. Itā€™s kind of like being able to be in two places at once in your head.
