this record is from 1996 and captures that era so perfectly. it definitely exists in the grunge zone but i think it’s kind of its own weird thing. the harmonies and energy instantly evoke the intimacy of the mtv unplugged performances of nirvana and alice in chains. though its less massive sounding than either of those bands studio records, theres a rawness in these recordings that i love

Whoa this record sounds massive — guitars and drums are huge. Loved the second half of the album especially. Great rec, ty.

Omg i love fantastic planet. There’s a really cool Paramore cover of Stuck on You which is also cute bc the lead singer of Failure would also go on to mix Paramores self titled album. (the one with ain’t it fun and still into you). second half of the album lives rent free in my head

Ten by Pearl Jam is one of my all time favorite classic/hard rock slash grunge albums. Hole’s album Live Through This is more of a melodic grunge/alternative rock, but a solid female vocal album. I feel like it never really got all the flowers it deserved because it was a female vocalist at the same time. I just ignore the fact that it’s Courtney Love lol. I’ve said this in a rec before and I’ll say it again: I will listen to ANYTHING that Chris Cornell worked on lol. He was a part of a few 90s grungy bands, so if you haven’t already definitely check out Soundgarden, Audioslave, and/or Temple of the Dog. Superunknown by Soundgarden is probably one of the best known. Some are popular enough, but ones I feel were all pretty quintessential 90s albums that were a great part of the sound.

iā€˜m 33 entire years late for this train but god it’s so good. we’ve been having hella grunge weather in melbourne right now and it’s such a perfect grunge album, plus eddie vedder is one of the best modern rock vocalists imho. the isolated vocal track for jeremy šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

One of the least talked-about GOAT double albums ever. I think I caught the band live for the first time on the ā€œSisterā€ tour that preceded it - I’d never seen or heard anyone abuse guitars in such a creative and unusual way before that (or since). Not a dud track on it. A mind-blowing, life-altering, perspective-forming monster of a release. I was and have remained a fan ever since (and Kim Gordon is a goddess, I’ll go down with that particular ship forever). When someone says ā€œbest NYC art rockā€ this is automatically my go-to reaction. Like a gallery showing for a new artist you can’t wait to tell your friends about. šŸ–¤ P.S.: Yes it sucks that they're gone and I blame Thurston, of course.
