My favourite movie of 2023. Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives for Albertan teens. Canadian cinema is so back

If you are living in the right country or have a VPN i recommend this movie. Visually gorgeous with some fun generations spanning flashbacks. Felt very Greta Gerwig inspired. As well, the queer Canadian childhood plotline shifted the palette and tone to something more akin to the first act of I Saw The TV Glow. Pleasantly charming surprise hidden by a lack of U.S distribution. Put Amrit Kaur in more movies she is incredible.

a man dying of kidney failure begins to experience strange happenings, such as the appearance of his wife as a ghost, and the return of his long lost son in a non-human form. he is compelled to travel to a mysterious cave in the jungle - the birthplace of his first life - in order to make peace with his mortality. very strange Thai ghost story about mortality, love, transience, and transformation. such a beautifully shot and written movie. I just watched this last night so I’m still processing it but this movie was so odd in a great way. It’s very folk horror-y but it’s not particularly scary.
