about 3 months ago I made a bet (or like was challenged or something idk) with my dad to try and go 6 months without drinking any drinks with sugar in them. not anticipating how hard this would be (even for money) I agreed. around 3 months in and as someone who absolutely hated artificial sweeteners I have grown to at minimum tolerate and at most mildly enjoy sugar free drinks. my favorite is sugar free red bull, and I just had gatorade zero today. i also learned that most artificial sweeteners that are used (excluding a couple, like aspartame) have no documented adverse health effects. color me impressed. you win this round, science nerds.

not because you care about the sugar or calories but because it genuinely tastes better than the regular version. the regular shit is too syrupy and leaves a gross film in one’s mouth. the zero sugar version is light. it’s sexy. it’s dignified. it’s free. it almost always has a cooler aesthetic too. I don’t wanna hear any horseshit about artificial sweeteners causing cancer knights of aspartame rise up ⚔️🥤⚔️

So this is a drug I got from talking to my psychiatrist about reducing my drinking amount without fully quitting drinking (because I don’t want to). he prescribed me 50mg of Naltrexone and told me to take it daily for full effectiveness. Essentially what NAL does is suppress the dopamine you receive from drinking alcohol, curbing cravings and slowing consumption. it works by binding to opioid receptors. it is not an opioid, it is not addictive and it doesn’t cause withdrawal symptoms. best of all? It WORKS. Pretty fucking cool right?

I had been buying a bit too much coffee out as of late and I wanted to switch it up. I have an older nespresso machine and Laura sometimes makes cold brew (it’s a bit of a process), but neither were ready quick enough or were cutting it energy wise. So I bought a Krups 5-cup coffee maker for $25 on Amazon. It does literally only that - make coffee. I load it up with Chamberlain Coffee (which is also a definite recommend), pour in the water, close it and flip the switch. then I drink the entire pot and clean my whole apartment. Good stuff.
