This is a book of interviews with 12 pioneering artists who create photo books. It’s a long discussion about two of my deepest passions: photography and bookmaking. I found it because of the curator David Campany, and it is a must have for those who take their photography seriously. The most visceral interview is with the photographer Larry Clark, who talks about getting sued by the grandparents of a baby he photographed, leaving out pictures of sawed off shot guns, and his commitment to never making his friends look bad. There’s a lot of passages about book design, a range of photography styles, and the meaning of success. This book is a gold mine of insight, and I carry it with me like a bible.

This program (available on Netflix) centers around a diner in Japan that's open from midnight to six a.m. and the stories of the people who visit it. The show is both interesting and meditative — each episode is self-contained, so you can pop it on any time, take a break for a couple of weeks, and it'll be there waiting to embrace you like a warm hug.

Of course, this perfect for doing anything shoe is no longer in production and requires a little eBay hunting to acquire. A precursor to the popular foraging-centric dad shoe, the Jungle Moc the Orbit Moc has a neoprene upper, making the shoe easy to put on and more attractive on foot. These babies are from the 90s, so the glue is a little touch and go — don't be angry if they start falling apart after a few wears. It's a little bit of a gamble leveling up your Merrell game.

If you're into coffee and have been to LA or dealt with someone from LA, you've probably heard of MARU. It's for a good reason. Maru coffee is delicious, and if you're able to get to the Los Feliz location, you can see some cool people getting off fits, a respite from the butt wipe tee and big hat culture of Venice and West Hollywood. The creme de la creme order is an iced americano with oat milk and an almond croissant (which is good enough to be a rec. on its own)
