I haven't read The Artist's Way for about 10 years, returning to it at the start of a fresh year has felt wonderfully supportive and grounding. Anything that highlights spirituality in art does it for me. 12/10 recommend that any creative wake up each morning to journal for three pages (min). This is coming from a "dear diary" kid tho so take my proposed ease with the practice with a grain of salt.

I make photo albums of the polaroids I take of my friends, work, and travels. I love having a physical object that can bring back so many memories. Like many, reading the book The Artist's Way helped me find ways to connect to myself and my art. I adopted the practice of "Morning Pages" which is writing three pages in a journal stream of consciousness style to empty your mind of cluttered thoughts before you get into your day. This has helped my anxiety levels and enhanced my focus so much. I love reading them back after enough time has passed to reflect on what has worried me and remind myself that all things must pass.

Linked :) Incredible list of prompts I would also recommend Lynda Barry’s daily diary four-square method (attached below) or any Lynda Barry… her book Syllabus is full of inspiration! As an on and off journaler, that’s the approach I’m able to stick with most consistently because I have a difficult time with narrative journaling but love making lists! It helps me to tune in and be present each day so I have something to write about. Can be helpful to set a timer for 5 minutes or a number of pages you want to write and just do stream of consciousness. Morning Pages is a method from the Artist’s Way and you write three pages every morning about anything but you have to fill three pages. And lastly, if you’re religious/spiritual at all, you might be interested in Two Way Prayer.

every day, carve out 30 minutes to completely fill three journal pages as fast as possible. the point is to simply write anything, everything, without worrying if it’s good or bad… then, never look at it again 🤠 at least, not for a while—but this encourages you to get comfortable with writing for the sake or writing, unbothered with the outcome
