Go to the opera at least once. Get dressed up with a friend, be chic, enjoy the people watching during intermission, laugh haughtily and bask in the good lighting. I was obsessed with the simplicity of the little black and orange subtitle screens in front of each seat. The crowd is older and sophisticated and judgemental. They were wearing the best clothes. The stage sets are grand and the singing will melt your brain. I don’t know about other cities but The Met has turned me into an opera person now.
