often times my mode is to stop talking and start listening

weβre surrounded by sound. it is constant, capable of being both overwhelming, and easily ignored. Itβs grounding to give sound, and silence, the respect and reflection they deserve.
I often find myself forcibly listening to people I'm talking to just because I want to get out what I want to say.
But I've recently been learning how much I can learn by just shutting up and listening intently to others talk.
i keep waking up in no mood to hear any music, podcasts, etc. and just focusing on the sounds of the commute. tune into that person mouthing off their lover on the phone. listen deeply to the screech of the subway as is settles into the station. embrace the sirens of passing emergencies. all are worth lending your ear to.
my mother always says life is about peaks and valleys but to allow these changes to be learning moments.
people fear the tower, calling for change and reconstruction, but i see it as an opportunity to learn from challenge.
