Goddamn I read too much Wikipedia. I like to structure it around certain topics. Right now I'm working on my sports trivia, a perennial weak-spot, so I'm reading each NFL team's page in its entirety.

Just so much fun reading history of random ass things like western eroticism or Tai Chi then falling down click hole of other silly things

I sometimes use Wikipedia to fill in gaps in my historical understanding of genres or the interrelationships between bands/producers/studios/genres/etc. Because so much of the value of Wikipedia is in the links and lists of links (almost moreso than the actual content in the page), I find my exploration is less predetermined by simple popularity/centrality of a particular page or cluster of pages. And yet... you're still stuck in someone else's garden, and you won't find many local/rare materials. For the rarer stuff, I have used similar methods on discogs.

The amount of times Dante uses a unique and beautiful metaphor to describe witnessing the un-describable beautiful essence of God is staggering. He does it like 3 times every canto and every time his eloquence is so striking. (using the John Ciardi translation)

The Revolt of Mamie Stover (1956) Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous Hawaiian vistas. Includes a somewhat gratuitous Pearl Harbor scene. She-Devil (1989) Rare Meryl Streep comedic performance. Funniest idea is that she falls in love with Ed Begley Jr. The ‘Burbs (1989) Rick Ducommun is great and looks exactly like Tim Dillon. Like every detail. Anatomy of a Fall (2023) Not exactly a under the radar rec, but I’m just catching up on Oscar season. And yeah, it’s fantastic.
