If you’re familiar with Sonic Youth and like the music at all, you’ll want to read this. In her memoir, Kim Gordon talks about growing up in LA in the 60s and 70s in a family of progressive academics, and later living in New York City in the era of Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground. She talks about the advent of the no wave movement and noise rock. She tells stories of her and former husband Thurston Moore‘s adventures forming and evolving as Sonic Youth for 40 years.
My favorite thing in the book was when she shared her disappointment in Rick Rubin after he told her in an interview his favorite band was Bon Jovi.

One of the coolest contemporary artists working. Currently she has two singles out that are both falling in the vein of a modern day Kim Gordon. As a model, she combines the heroin chic of the 90s with a 70s punk aesthetic. She’s a style icon, always has a hairstyle that’s enviable, and is dating the effortlessly cool, Earl Cave. Check out her work, she rocks.

Just read this essay by Olivia Laing in her book "Funny Weather: Art in an Emergency"about the painter Sargy Mann. He progressively lost his sight towards the end of his life, and when he couldn't barely see anymore he produced these beautiful set of paintings of people in between leaving the pool and going inside this little sitting room. His debilitated sight made him focus a lot more on the blocks of colour, that are so vibrant they scream on the paintings, even when seeing them through a computer screen.
