It’s like capturing a Pokémon. There is not much control or insularity in this world but when that song ends and the next one plays, there is nothing like the rush of stealing a new piece of sound to keep as your own 🫶

What about the sheer disappointment of being at a foreign film festival and knowing it's not appropriate to shazam mid-movie so you just have to let the song run knowing you'll likely never hear it again... :(

I hear a random banger and I snag it. Now I have a full playlist of stolen moments

Contrary to how it sounds, this rec doesn't come from a place of pretentiousness or pride. Much to the contrary, I become absolutely giddy when I come across a song whose title escapes me but is on the tip of my tongue. I go into full sonic sleuth mode -- using any combination of lyrics, whosampled.com, similar artists etc until I finally find the song title via my own prowess. Shazam isn't cheating, but it's also nowhere near as fun.

either a beautiful discovery, or if you can’t figure out what it is, a damn shame

The key to all closed doors, in friendship, love, and career stuff. it’s also actually fun to just meet someone new and ask them about themselves…. I’ve found that people are much more open about themselves in a coffee talk setting than in other places - learn about what people care about!!!!

It’s loud and it hurts my ears! All you people who are too cool and stoic to plug your ears will have tinnitus in no time soon. I love to hear the world clearly and I like the act of an understated type of kindness towards oneself that confronts a slow resignation into urban malaise
