If you like Elena Ferrante or if you too, have felt the pains and pleasures of writing. If you want to hear someone describe the age old ‘ahhh language can’t possibly communicate the true depth and complexity of our thoughts!‘ but in an actually thoughtful manner. Made me cry.

"It was the golden time of the year. Every day the leaves grew brighter, the air sharper, the grass more brilliant. The sunsets seemed to expand and melt and stretch for hours, and the brick facades glowed pink, and everything blue got bluer. How many perfect autumns did a person get? Why did I always seem to be in the wrong place, listening to the wrong music?" I've been rereading Elif Batuman's Either/Or and found myself fixating on these lines. It feels almost disarming to have someone articulate on paper a sensation so exact to the ways I have been feeling lately. I love the clarity that Batuman writes with. Her phrasing is so precise it hurts. Again and again I find myself returning to her novels, and to Selin as a character, as I find my own way through the absurd labyrinth of college life. I'm so grateful that books like this exist, and that I can read them.

Just read Writing by Marguerite Duras in one go which is often either a sign of my mental health going haywire or a book being so tantalizingly real and/or inspiring that time goes out the window and I am hooked into every word like a calf to a teat in search of protein I was especially drawn into these reflections about writing a book and what it means to a be a writer A contradiction that is both of the world and seperate from it that is a witness and being witnessed constantly in two phases Highly recommend for writers and readers that love reading writing about writing

anything & everything she’s touched. evocative, literary, personal, critical, artistic. reading their words feels like falling into a long, lazy river or discovering the truth of the secret garden or connecting immediately, instantly with a stranger or finding peace in solitude

if I go somewhere (train station, highway, supermarket) and there are massive screens which play ads on a loop, purposefully bright and loud and situated in a public space I experience this as an evil. It actively harms me. i don’t think we need to go any further than Times Square to find proof that aesthetic value is at least partially grounded in moral value.

You are obligated to make a good faith attempt to like your friends boyfriend five separate times. However five times is quite generous of you and if your don’t like them on the sixth occassion it is out of your hands.

Pilates + not eating processed foods + minimum 8 hours sleep + no coffee past 12pm… who knew feeling like an anxious, sleepless, over caffeinated mess all the time didn’t have to be the case!
