80s-2000s Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota pickups. Efficient, functional, fun colors, reliable and will fix themselves if you yell angrily enough, cheap, not awful on gas. Trucks are personality vehicles. Never buy a brand new car for the love of god.

early 80s to early 2000s truck models are the perfect sizes imo. current trucks are transformer-sized behemoths that could easily crush normal vehicles into smithereens upon impact and i legit don’t know how those things are even street-legal. also, idk if it’s their design, reliability or the nostalgia factor per-se, but there’s a certain sazón those older trucks have that newer ones don’t. 2024 Ford F-150? 🤮🤢 1980 Ford F-150? 🫦🫦

Car brands forgot how to make a beautiful car. What gives? The new tech is great functionally, but the forms suck, they are all too damn slick or showy or bubbly. I really can't find a modern car or truck that looks good. I don’t understand it. There are endless beautiful old cars. I especially love the boxy old jeep XJs (pre 2001), and old range rover classics (pre 1996). The best new car I’ve seen is the one new model of the Toyota Land Cruiser, you of course can’t get in the US. On a recent trip to Tokyo, I fell in love with the old sedan taxis, mainly the Toyota Century (pre 2017), incredible. I’d love to design a car one day.

The superior way to travel distances. Cafe car. Comfortable seats and space. Chargers. Big windows. You can meet people and watch the world go by. Exceedingly convenient. I have gone across the country on Amtrak. I take it round trip once a week to work. I love it dearly. I think people that complain it’s consistently inconvenient or slow are not living live for the love of the game and do not subject themselves to a healthy amount of adventure.

From a personal experience: half priced dinner, contemplative wandering through the showroom, wondering if no one else in Ikea on a Friday night is real. Very healing.

Low, very slow, lots of acid and aromatics. Meat braised until it falls off the bone is physically and spiritually nourishing.
