An artist that I admire and has touched (and tugged) at my heart is Yoshimoto Nara. Yoshimoto Nara was born in 1959 in Hirosaki, Aomori, Japan. He is known for powerful portraits with eyes that gaze back at the viewer (YOSHIMOTO NARA The Works). What touches me about his work are the characters he draws. It is soft, childlike imagery but he uses his characters to explore the depths of our human condition. It’s in the eyes. The characters in his work are children carrying the feelings, questions, doubts, and fears of adults.
