the better the album cover, the better the music when it comes to this stuff. The Adventure of Kohsuke Kindaichi is one of the best examples. shy nervous dracula flute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-LZudHEk7k

Shibuya-kei album from the 90s. Insanely cool, whimsical, and groovy. If you're a fan of the Japanese sub-genre of Shibuya-kei or just intrested in listening to some new music, I highly recommend it. Includes lots of sampling and takes inspiration from the Beach Boys, hip-hop, rock, chiptune, and a plethora of other musical genres. My favorite tracks on it are Mic Check and Count Five or Six. This album is a masterpiece! P.S. Fun fact: Cornelius' stage name comes from the Planet of the Apes character, Cornelius. His real name is Keigo Oyamada, one half of Flipper's Guitar.

this man is absolutely legendary. if you enjoy japanese jazz/funk fusion, surfboards, star wars, or just straight swagger, Takanaka’s your guy. the 70s musician has that of a cult following– for reference, last week he announced a single show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles with presale tickets going on sale for this Friday October 4th... but tell me why my friend went through LENGTHS to somehow snag tickets on October 1st, which ended up selling out nearly the entire venue, with the $300 pit tickets being the only ones left. even if you don’t like the music, his signature surfboard guitar should get you fucking itching to see him live. i would highly recommend his 1977 album “BRASILIAN SKIES”, which includes STAR WARS SAMBA. it’s exactly what it sounds like: a samba rendition of the Star Wars Theme! the man has entire instagram fan-pages dedicated to that of a single album cover in which he’s skydiving over the vast blue sea. jubilantly, at that. i can’t wait to see him in March 2025, long live Takanaka!

Absolutely batshit viral video from before Youtube in the early 2000s. Its incredibly dissonant to listen to, so I figured I'd only watch for a few minutes but I watched the entire thing and then started from the beginning. Amazing how nonchalant and chill all the people are. The sound design goes from grating to hilarious the longer you watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUmmxW7Ksc8&t=3s
