Build something simple that you’d like to see exist! Use GPT or similar as a free coding instructor. I lean on it for help everyday and I’m a full-time front end dev!

varun studied journalism in college and got hired to publish the articles on the school paper site as my first job. started small with little HTML and CSS stuff for a while and built it up over time. have slowly acquired more skills at different jobs and landed my first full-time dev role about eight years later. i think the key is just to get hands on with it and build real stuff even if it's basic. tutorials are too isolated and the real skill devs need is being able to problem solve even if they don't have experience with the exact issue at hand. also, yeah! definitely recommend. get to work from home and hang out with my wife and pets all day. pay is good and you're mostly left alone to just get your shit done.

Support our independent cinema screens!! I am a Londoner so I have memberships with BFI, Prince Charles and Picturehouse and it is totally worth it, especially as watching movies takes up a good chunk of my personality and I dislike watching things at home. Advanced screenings, access to smaller films, discounted tickets are all great but it’s also just nice to support these places who do so much in preserving the British independent film scene which is currently in an abysmal state. Curzon, Everyman, The Garden, Genesis, ICA and many more are also all great and I would be members of them all if I could. Big up BFI especially because I probably wouldn’t have got as far in both my career and love of film without them, and the Northampton Filmhouse in my hometown which was my first independent cinema.
These are of course London based examples but I encourage everyone to support their local independents 🫶🏻

The best movie theater in New York seats 35. See a movie here you know nothing about and you will be inspired. For me most recently it was a screening of Dave Wascavage’s Suburban Sasquatch. Simple Town has been lucky enough to play videos here twice. The first night was packed, the second night we sold two tickets, and both nights were perfect.

The best $25 I spend every month. Literally pays for itself if you see one movie
plus if I see a bad movie I don’t feel like I wasted money

Way harder than I thought it’d be but not bad for my first try. My lack of skill somehow gives it extra charm instead of looking like shit. Turns out embroidery is a forgiving medium.

a good lesson in patience and being ok looking like shit on purpose for a while. also fun to tend to it like a little garden on your face.

may seem trivial, but this helps me feel more confident in the things I write down and encourages a more positive self-image of my brain.
also, it’s not that hard. you basically just need to slow down.
