I miss the rotary phone and the allure of not knowing who was calling. I also love hearing people react to something and sometimes I cannot be bothered to look at my face in the FaceTime window!! To best replicate that I love calling someone out of the blue to say hi!!! in order to best delve into calling it’s important to increase the volume and frequency of calls in the first few months so that you don’t stress anyone out with fear of bad news. once that’s all through you’re in business girlypop! The other day I called someone and we chatted for 40 mins just telling stories and giggling and this is what life is about I’d say!!!

i find it increasingly difficult in the overstimulation age to remember to connect with distant friends, especially those who live in different cities. so recently, i've taken to making a list of homies that we've agreed to randomly cold call each other when we're on long walks, late at night after hitting a club, when making breakfast, or have a moment when needing virtual company with no expectation of an answer in each direction, but an understanding that eventually the stars will align. sometimes we will miss each other 4+ times over two months before we catch each other, but the moments that we do always ground me and give me a special feeling that's difficult to articulate. there's something beautiful about it and i encourage everyone to try it out for themselves :)

I feel like I won't be the first to recommend this. You, probably like me, have someone else's Criterion login/password and saw that Hal Hartley's films were featured. You ALSO didn't know about him despite being a self-appointed cinephile, so you watched them all, loved most of them and bought the ones you could afford in DVD format on ebay. Anyway, I recommend the films of Hal Hartley. They're kinda perfect and idk why no one ever references them. Or maybe I'm the last to know?
