I don't know of another movie, ever, that has so perfectly captured the banality and flat-out bizarreness of evil. I really can't recommend it enough but it's a tough watch. Horror is lurking in the background throughout. PS: If you have the chance to visit Auschwitz, you should. Or any concentration camp now open to the public. The best way for us to never revisit this monster-level bullshit on humanity again is to have to go confront it in all its ugliness, face to face. (Like when you walk around Berlin and you see all the Stolpersteine -- "never forget" -- memorials embedded in the city's sidewalks). What Steven Spielberg is doing with The Shoah Foundation will tower over any of his accomplishments in cinema. Preserve the truth. Witness.

Added a link to a 26 minute analysis of this scene. Itโ€™s brilliant. I think the long drawn out scene build tension in such an ominous way. Hans Landa is one of my fav villains; heโ€™s polite and eerily cheerful but he always knows more than anyone else in the scene does. This movie does a great job of doing long scenes as opposed to cutting back and forth to other characters / moments. I know the movie can come off as โ€œbro-y Nazi killing WW2โ€ movie but that is such a shallow view of it. Worth the watch.

Just watched it for a class. Thought it was good but the score was terribleโ€” really schlocky mid-2000s dramatic orchestration action movie fodder. It also felt five million hours long. I like Bruno Ganz very much and I like that he is in every German movie ever made.

Hilarious and thought provoking. This film is easily one of the best released last year.
