rewind and play, passages, ida, daughters of the dust, force majeure, fallen leaves, aftersun, close, in the mood for love, portrait of a lady on fire, ok i think that is enough recs?
first thing i noticed was Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which is absolutely electric
looks like they have a fantastic collection of Asian filmmakers: Wong Kar Wai (moody, romantic), Hirokazu Koreeda (deeply humanizing, works with child actors), Bong Joon Ho (always a fun time), Apichatpong Weerasethakul (atmospheric and weird af)
they have a bunch of oscar films too. highly recommend Past Lives
portrait of a lady on fire
fallen leaves
the worst person in the world
chungking express
looove a film about women with romantic plot that’s in another language that’s not english…
surreal, haunting, visually stunning. slow but if you give it the chance really compelling. makes good use of the drama of film and especially black and white cinematography(to me, makes it a must see). plus with costumes designed by coco herself !!
other recs:
- in the mood for love
- the umbrellas of cherbourg
- singing in the rain
