At Lincoln Center this past November I saw the Philip Glass Etudes performed by 10 pianists, and what Christian Sands did with Etudes 9 and 10 has stuck with me even now. They're not even the most technically challenging of the 20 Etudes, but he did something absolutely wild that night. Other than that, I think Harry Styles is one of the greatest pop performers of our time, I think it's impossible to see him live on a stage and not think he has "It". Jockstrap at Music Hall of Williamsburg was probably my favorite musical experience of my lifetime.

yum yum yummy. Whether or not the show is good or not, the lighting never disappoints. I can see the most bland, boring, i-movie, stock music esque performances, and still be enchanted by the magic that is lighting engineers at the Sydney Opera House. On that note - with all respect to Max Richter and his career, his music was simply accompanying the thoughts of the crowd, and the silent conversations being had in oneā€™s head about how they could later brag to their co-workers about how much they enjoy classical music. I am astounded by his success, and am glad he found an audience for his endless arpeggios, 4 chords and ambient piano, but if i had added a trap beat, it would have ended up on a ā€œ10 hour study lofi beatsā€ playlist 5 years ago.

James Ehnes and Andrew Armstrong at Wigmore Hall last Sunday -- absolutely bodied the whole programme but the Shostakovich changed my life. They seem like two nice men who really respect each other so I wasnā€™t fully sold on the emotion, but still had so much fun watching one guy bouncing on the piano stool and the other fully battering an 18th century Stradivarius. It was slapstick! I loved it!

I got Apple Music classical recently. absolutely love it. If youā€™re reading this and havenā€™t taken the classical-pill yet, you have to give it a try. It has all the calming space out lock in effects of ambient musicā€” but if you care to really tune into the music itself itā€™s astonishing how beautiful it can be. Growing up, I thought it was music for the diaperprolesā€” babies & senior citizens. I was so wrong. Such grace, such clarity, such overwhelming force, such tenderness, such vehement, electrifying ENERGY all expressed completely wordlessly. By a means that surpasses words. Wordcelsisters, we never stood a chanceā€¦ Iā€™ve been on a huge Russians kick currently. Prokofiev, Rachmoninov, Stravinsky, Scriabin, Tvhaikovsky. Some pieces that Iā€™ve really been enjoying recently, in no particular order: Schumannā€™s piano concerto in A minor performed by Marta Argerich. Rossiniā€™s overture from la gazza ladra Prokofievā€˜s dance of the knights from Romeo & Juliet Stravinskyā€™s rite of spring Vladikir Ashkenazyā€™s rendition of Chopinā€™s 15th nocturne Iā€™m also convinced that ā€œSmile Sessionsā€ is the best pop album ever made. If anyone can provide any evidence to the contrary Iā€™d be delighted. But in the meantime, Iā€™ll continue listening to ā€The Teenage Symphony to Godā€ front to back ad infinitum
