The #1 way I’ve worked through any sort of creative rut (this happened recently) is by talking through it with my friends who also make art/write/etc. It helps me get out of my head, which is usually the root cause of the block. Also revisiting your/others’ work that inspires you (study an old painting you love, reread your diary, watch your favorite movie a few times in a row)

The Artist’s Way is the classic rec for this ask, but theres one lesson it teaches that stuck with me most. when you feel stuck doing the creating that you really want to or feel like you “should”, do another form of creating instead. If you’ve a writing block, paint instead. A paining block? Collage! go on a photo walk and take some good photos. All creativity is linked and if you feel blocked in one, loosening up another can help!

As someone who often falls into burnout and creative slumps with my art and animation, I find that taking a little step out of your comfort zone and trying something different really helps! It can be a different medium, a different style, etc. as long as you’re doing something creative. Oftentimes what gets me out of my slumps is switching from digital to traditional art, and also doing a bit of writing! I always return reinvigorated and full of ideas.

you gotta work on something everyday. even if you don’t think you’ll ever reveal it to the public. even if it’s not in the medium you typically work in (if you paint, do a pencil drawing or write a poem…if you sculpt try making an abstract pastel drawing…if you write essays try writing a song…so on and so forth). even if it’s !not good! that’s fine. even if you work on a little bit each day that’s okay. you’re still stimulating your brain and when the block is over your mind with be warmed up and ready. this is def something i’ve struggled with recently but making an effort to keep myself active creatively has helped a ton.

It’s Friday night and I’m off work late with no plans but I felt like being out in the world, even if for a moment. Turns out, a low stakes glass of orange wine tastes great when you’re waiting for a $10 burrito platter from down the street.

I’ve spent so much time scrolling on this app that I’m able to discern some of your writing voices. There are a couple of you who have such a developed voice that I can guess you wrote a post before seeing the attached username. You’re all so observant, introspective, delusional, earnest, anxious, well-rounded, hilarious and loving. Kind of breaks my heart that I’ll likely never meet some of my favorites because we all live everywhere, but I guess that’s why we thank God for the Internet!
