After Jarmusch's NYU thesis film, Permanent Vacation (which I do not recommend), Jarmusch went on to make three very solid ultra low budget films; Stranger Than Paradise (1984), Down By Law (1986), and Mystery Train (1989). Each of these films has a lot of heart and feature the likes of Tom Waits, John Lurie, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Joe Strummer, Roberto Benigni, and a very young Steve Buscemi, amongst others. They are some of my favorite comfort films, and are beautifully shot by the GOAT, Robby Müller.
