Instead of making up an excuse, coming up with fake alternative plans, or flaking last minute, I force myself to say YES to every social invitation I receive. I have to go and make one new friend (if applicable). I only say no when I have another prior commitment, but I always say YES when I have “tentative“ plans with myself. It gets me out of the house, making new connections, and learning new things!

This was my rule for myself when I first moved to Slovenia and was horribly homesick and could barely speak the language. The rule of YES. You have to say YES. If it's humanly possible to do it, you have to do it. I met three of my life's greatest friends because of this. It's not quite a rule anymore since my life balance is different now, but it is still, shall we say, a strong suggestion I make to myself. I will forever be grateful for what the rule of YES did for me. It brought me out of the darkest place, back into the ok.

Even if it doesn’t sound like the most exciting plan ever! I think it’s so easy to get stuck in hermit mode if you enjoy your own company. Also it’s nice to be invited to things and the more you say yes the more people will think of you when they’re looking for someone to invite

Easy way to tell people you like and value them and want to spend more time with them! Also return the invites!

Co-sign to all the rec's already given. What helps me is changing scenery. Getting outside for a walk. Going on a run. Writing/journaling at a coffee shop. Saying yes to social opportunities. Going to the movies. etc.

If there is no drama, then when I see or think about something that reminds me of them I will reach out. It really makes people’s day.

I don’t know what to say honestly. They bring light into my life. Bad day: pb&j, good day: pb&j, started my period: pb&j, no time for dinner: pb&j. When is doubt pb&j it out… Try it sometime.

For me, a lot of the time when I feel like this it’s due to outside stressors. What I do when I feel like this, or depressed, is I delete Instagram and any other form of social media (this doesn’t count). I start changing my daily routine and limit screen time at home. I read before bed (even though it takes time to learn how to focus on it). I guess it is one of those things that you have to make a choice to overcome everyday. Like people have said, practicing meditation is helpful. For me I found it too challenging, maybe it’s the stigma of it or something. So instead of meditating, I stretch before bed and focus on my breaths and how my body feels. My mind will wander, but it is more about grounding myself than removing all external thoughts.
