An “eclectic” offshoot of Radio France. Elegant, mellow, will send you to sprinting to Shazam again and again. Francophone stuff that rarely gets play in the US (French 80s pop star Etienne Daho— who sounds equally influenced by Lou Reed, Francoise Hardy and the Pet Shop Boys — is a favorite discovery), mixed with Sly and Robbie, Bill Evans, Moondog, some baroque chamber piece, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, De La Soul, and on and on and on

When I don't want to pick my own tunes, I turn on FIP (easy access with app). The programming is on point and who doesn't want the sweet romance of the French language between songs?

I was living in Ireland when i started this playlist, and ig Spotify has a region-lock typea thing going on where if yr EU it’ll serve you EU ish (idk, makes sense in my head). At the time I was getting rec’d a bunch of French Pop and wanted to throw it all into a playlist to mark a little slice of time on this earth living outside of Philly. Not everything is foreign, but I’d say 90% of it is in French. I don’t speak or understand French, but I love this set of songs 🥖

He wrote for the Marx Brothers (and looked like one). His short comedy prose was jaw droppingly verbose but also laugh-out-loud funny, even to someone reading them a good seven or eight decades past their sell-by date. The Library of America is reprinting a couple of his classics. Crazy Like A Fox is the place to start.
