The dreams this record wanders through remind me of Wu Lyf, but slightly more beaten down by the calamity of information overload. What if '80s 4AD became lingua franca? What if we knew what the Cocteau Twins were saying? What if Donna Hayward and James Hurley took off with their band?

I was initially drawn to Threshold after seeing a few friends post the single cover for this song. At the time I had no idea that it was my own friend Isaac (of Strange Ranger) behind it, and he seemed happy that his mysterious new project fooled me. Context aside though— this is one of the best songs I heard all year, and I guarantee that its minimal arrangement + hypnotizing chorus will pull you right in to its strange little world. And it doesn't stop there, this entrancing dream-like atmosphere extends to the rest of the album that arrived shortly after, Thief. I feel like he's on to something truly new with this sound.

Big rec here I was initially drawn in by the album art (always judge a book by it's cover) and ended up completely obsessed with the hypnotic chorus & atmosphere of this one. Had no idea it was isaac from Strange Ranger's new project until 3 minutes ago. If love and only love can break your heart What's this tearing mine apart? Oh yeah Oh baby The years flying faster all the time I lie awake and dream all night Oh yeah Oh baby So good

while it’s almost impossible for me to pick a fav record of theirs, this one might be my most played. almost no drums which leaves ample space for robin guthrie‘s gooey reverb guitar and elizabeth fraser’s vocals to fill the space. i can’t help but feel instantly hypnotized whenever this song comes on, equal parts ethereal, spooky, whimsical, and heavy. despite not knowing what her lyrics actually mean you can’t help but intuitively understand the vibe

Finally a media product honest about the psychosexual trauma and deranged generational entitlement of millennials. The Fielder-Safdie meetup bridges the confounding cinéma vérité of the former with the disconcerting aesthetic of the latter. To be sure, I'd call this a "drama;" but, as is the case with the auteurs here, the blurring of "reality" with "fiction" ends up presenting a truth larger than the sum of its parts. Well-meaning liberals gentrify the frontier, while excusing themselves from the shitty and destructive behavior that they knowingly partake in. Emma Stone is truly un-believable, an uncanny powerhouse. There's no boundary here, in the Derridian sense: you are at fault as you watch, especially when Nathan shows us his tiny, tiny, tiny little dick. "It's not a big deal and I'm not insecure about it."
