should replace the apple as the symbol of ny in my opinion. it's the cover of one of the most influential albums of all time from the most important band to ever come out of nyc (the velvet underground!) AND it represents the american pop art movement and mass production. both simple and mundane and provocative and controversial in nature. blurs the line between perceived high art and low, lazy art. bonus: tactile feature of peeling off the vinyl cover to reveal pink fruit underneath, marrying visual art and music, setting a precedent for the vinyl printing industry to create more involved packaging.
