gao hang’s work isn’t otherworldly - it’s from a world i love. for months before i found his name, his artwork invaded my pinterest feed. it was arresting, humorous, nostalgic. ps1 graphics you can reach out and touch - if you were ever able to escape from the screen, that is.

I have been collecting art my entire adult life, starting from my days 20 years ago as a student at RISD. When I see something I love, I do not hesitate to buy it. At this point, my walls have no room for more art, but that does not stop me when the art is really good. I am obsessed with my latest art purchases, these prints by LA artist Nick Pini. Abstract figures rendered with digital charcoal, giving me all the right energy and attitude. I bought Caught This For You and No Nightmares No Dreams because I instantly connected with them. I framed one of them in this Neon pink frame and it’s perfection. Ok now I want to go buy more...gotta go!

Wish u could put more than 1 image on a post theres so much of her work i love to show people . been following her since like 2021 when all i knew was she made the gecs stuff (She still does ! whenever they do stuff that is)) & ive been a huge fan ever since . the gecs stuff is all very tongue in cheek text , great texture/distressing , Awesome handdrawn logos , great little cliparts etc . All with lots of swirls & wizard stuff & goblins & whatever. very fun . I did a project in my highschool graphic design class on her work (& on Kikillo who , no shade ,, i am not Nearly as fond of these days lol) and it was a lot of greens and fun text and texturing etc . But as time goes on her work has gotten more sort of ethereal & magical, my favorite stuff being these giant—feeling collages(?) that feel like paints & serums & stews Kindly thrown together . like this is exactly what Magic looks like in real life . im repeating myself . Recently i was drunk & i dmed her on instagram & was just like Hi i love your work so much . Want to unsend but it would be untrue to my heart because i really meant it . Great Stuff❕

in the wake of the untimely death of buddy duress, i am reminded of the magnetic energy i felt discovering the safdie brothers. i first watched good time in film school, thanks to one of my only cool teachers (european). while i loved the film, i loved the safdie brothers‘ ethos even more. they scouted their stars from around the city - interesting people with tough lives. from reading and listening to podcasts, it seemed hectic. buddy durress wasn’t a trained actor, he was sometimes homeless and other times locked up at rikers. how do you manage that kind of talent? the article i’m including in this post could explain what the safdie brothers accomplish better than i can. their film heaven knows what is one of my all time favorites - but the story behind it solidifies why it’s so important. i’m not sure what arielle holmes is up to now, but i’m grateful she indulged everyone long enough to be able to make that film.
