My Alma mater announced this morning that they will remove all alumni access to Google drive effective June 1st…. Now how will I store my various gigs of digicam photos and Japanese pop music??? Perhaps I’ll start posting it all here… enjoy this for now

I think it was from the ‘90s actually but I found it on Stumbleupon in the early 2010s while it was still up and I can’t even remember the name now. I saved every single one to my Google Drive so I get to keep them FOREVER... or at least as long as Google Drive lasts. A lot of them are really freaky this is definitely one of the more conventional ones lol…

Open access and the preservation of digital artifacts are causes I can get behind, so I’m going to give The Internet Archive some appreciation here. I spend quite a bit of time browsing their offerings, some of which have made their way into my art projects. You’ll have to take your own trip with it, but some of my personal highlights include: a complete archive of Mondo 2000 magazines, a collection of K-Mart background music from a former employee (recently denoised by another IA user), and the Noise-Arch collection which pulls together many gigs of underground tape cassettes from the 1980s-90s. Recently I started using a ChatGPT Chrome extension and put it to work reading entire PDFs, searching for keywords, summarizing etc. Pretty awesome library school / digital hoarder / subvertainment stuff, if you like that sort of thing.

grateful for the archive as everything becomes edited erased and forgotten in real time there’s remnants of the past here alive and reduced to files. favorite recent find has been this handbook for the chateau marmont from 1996 with writing by william faulkner, eve babitz, and mike davis. make sure to search the metadata.  edit: since i wrote this archive.org has unfortunately been shut down so here’s some ashwagandha supplements i been vibing with lately - Jay
