I feel as if I am preaching to the choir here and Contradicting myself however it must be said posting here with intentional recommendations or genuine questions makes this place valuable and fun I see bleed over from Twitter or people just straight up complaining about things and I don’t really enjoy it but alas who am I if I sound ignorant sorry I just see too much myopic discourse on things and get burnt from it as a result of being online too much. This place seems more quiet compared to others

adding to the tapestry of this community

i know for a fact that i’m guilty of wanting that dopamine hit of having people see my posts and like them, but i’m trying to change my mentality around that here. i’m finding myself more at peace just posting my recommendations and taking solace that someone might find them in the future and enjoy what i suggest, rather than needing an instant gratification of a like. i feel as though i’m adding a brick to the communal building that is this cool userbase of interesting people.

can we not resist the urge in claiming and coding a particular thing? Do WE WANT TO? DO WE CARE?

what does it mean to push against instead of playing to the crowd? is playing to the crowd antithetical to the authentic, pre-irony space pi.fyi organically echoes from earlier internet times? lots of ways to look at this! i get this and think it's easy if you're fluent in online spaces. i actually feel like this specific aspect of the app feels most on par with the general design and function of apps in general and thus a tiny drawback for me; seeing the sorta patterned language and text magnified in this way (i'm off all other apps). this dilution and self-referential talk kinda bums me out?? it is refreshing to see a rec that pushes against this with flowery, long passages that are less self-aware and more about actually communicating the thing than just signaling status or an in- the-knowness. me? i like a little of both...xo

using this site!

I am rediscovering my love for sharing and writing. It's so rare to find an outlet where sincerely and intelligently offering your ideas is encouraged and made possible by a vibrant community. The discourse and recommendations on here are waking up my brain that has been rotting on twitter/insta/tiktok for years. I find myself writing essays in the rec box and deleting them because they aren't true recs and the sanctity of the site must be preserved. Anyway thank u legends.
