very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too

dont treat your shit like it’s disposable! . My laptop is old as hell and doesn’t work unless it’s plugged into a wall, but you know what I am proud that I cared for it like the finely arranged clump of precious metals and plastics that it is instead of like something I have to upgrade because there’s been 10 new versions in the last 8 years I’ve had it. In fact it makes me a fucking saint. I also always hang dry my undies so they don’t stretch out and get holes in them from heat damage. Things will last if you invest just a modicum of care into them..additionally it feels really nice to be able to point to a hideous Victoria’s Secret thong on the drying rack and say “I’ve had that for 14 years”. Also probably in 2 more years gen alpha kids will point to my laptop and call it “vintage”, so that’s something to look forward to. Ok Rec over

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT. take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be. tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

started the year off right with a three hour conversation with one of my former co-workers turned friend who is probably around my parents' age. went to a funky second wave coffee shop in my hometown and sat on some comfy chairs and caught up. then afterwards, we went to a craft store to look for frames for art she wants to hang up in her home. she encouraged and inspired me so much <3 I cherish her
