by Karen Dalton — it HAS to be the alternate take, which feels like a brisk sunny walk in the city, makes me smile every time, a total transformation from what is originally definitely a downer (but v beautiful) song?? The alternate version turns lyrics into a gentle pep talk from a friend

this year was filled with a lot of making it up as i went along and reminding myself that i do, in fact, have plenty of time. i was figuring out where, who, or what felt right and what to do and how to do it etc, etc, and this song was just a calming anthem to return to. i also have fond memories of listening to it (maybe a little too much) during the summer, and i really miss those sweaty firefly filled nights. this was one of the first summers i’ve ever missed; i usually despise the heat. so, i feel like that stands for something.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6NHVg9ig2w5sV87kyc7V42?si=xnZ3JmIVTx2NrEIo3RaLdw The quiet week between Christmas and New Years. I’ve never felt it as heavily as I did this year. Normally at this time I travel and it goes by in an instant. But, in NYC the streets got eerily quiet in places they're normally bustling, and (I know, I’m hardly a local here) but the waves of tourists made me feel weirdly displaced?? It was like a blanket fell over the city. in a place that normally demands speed and urgency it was suddenly okay to walk slowly. the warmer weather and the rain made me feel like I was inside a snow globe- safe from the outside world and contained. That’s how this song feels. and then on New Years BOOM people were dancing and celebrating the passage of time. fireworks and paper trumpets broke the quiet spell and the bout of wind on January 1st burst into our atmosphere. it made things feel real again. Anyway here we are back in reality, but for a moment on the M train I’m back in the snow globe- so thanks Chilly Gonzalez. Adding a picture I took in this picture as I was walking from the discotheque to Katz’s with Hannah.
