(the suburbs (continued) is a great closer, especially after Regineā€™s Sprawl II, and if you play the album in a loop (how albums should be played, imo) the piano of the title track crashes into you, just as intended. Beautiful and mundane and dramatic and filled with longing and nostalgia for ā€œwastedā€œ time and familiar spaces)

only album that is BOTH a contender for my 2023 and 2024 albums of the year. truly beautiful and cohesive work by the wonderful underscores! me and my roommate really bonded over our love for this album and went to an underscores show early on in our friendship and it was a cathartic experience. small venue, songs interluded and introduced with early playstationesque animated clips on a projector screen behind the stage, a singular light bulb dangling above the crowd that flickered with the music during slower songs. the directors cut adds 4 songs but holy mackerel each is beautiful and chaotic in its own right. relistening to the whole thing while i clean my apartment and having a grand time

Iā€™m ready to bring this album back into rotation. Itā€™s been my evening go-to recently, a perfect springtime listen - toss it on for the end of day unwind. Take out your sudoku notebook and bang one out while Sufjan lulls you down with Should Have Known Better (but not the same song of that name mentioned in the Sam Buck rec - 2 for 2 on that song šŸŽÆ).

Rant incoming: we need to place more value on printed photography rather than treating photographs merely as objects of our brief attention. I can physically feel a need for this. A real object of memory that we can hold and keep and watch fade. A piece of art on your wall to look at every day that reminds you of another time, a place youā€™ve been, a person youā€™ve been, how you felt. Iā€™m so glad that film photography still exists, and that people actually care here. It scares me to think that it might not one day, and that my kids might not be able to experience the pure joy and magic of shooting film. It also scares me to look at photographyā€™s place in the commercial art world, and how devalued it is in the past couple years. I know a big reason for this is obviously that they can be reproduced, but I also think a lot of people donā€™t see the value in photography anymore. after IG became a mall. we should all be buying prints. If everyone was buying prints, the economy would probably be way better and then the film industry would be saved and photographers could live ā¤ļø I reserve the right to edit this post when Iā€™m not stoned anymore One more thing: the minute i started thinking about photography less like journaism and more like painting i felt so much better about everything. it just made sense finally. Idk how to explain it. It doesnt have to be fast. it doesnā€™t even have to make sense.
