i’m spending the week in nyc this week so obviously as i’m walking the streets i‘m reminded of all my fav flicks set in this city... special effects was written/directed by larry cohen - one of the coolest and weirdest b-movie writer/directors. i love all of his 70s-80s movies. they have the craziest scripts, he casts weird background characters, and always delivers a vibe. he’s usually working on a small budget so there’s a rawness and realness within his bizzaro worlds. it stars a young eric bogosian (talk radio, uncut gems) playing an unhinged delusional director in the midst of making a very meta movie about a murder he committed. his loft in the movie is one of my fav sets ever. indoor stain glass windows, all red bedroom. i’m sure someone on here can tell me it’s precise location. it also stars zoe lund (ms. 45, bad lieutenant) - her accents, look, and range is unreal. i don’t wanna say too much and spoil the plot really, but if you dig movies about movies, brian de palma or abel ferrera stuff, then you should check this out…

Honestly bro I had no idea wtf was going on in ts but the wardrobe was A1 and scene locations were mad cool. It also is the same dude who did Possession, ik a lot of you mfs on this app like that one. Starring Romy Schneider of “La Piscine” fame, also features a sleazed out performance by Klaus Kinski, it’s ab a photographer who likes some actress but her sherm bf is unhinged and manipulating her idk I got tired of reading subtitles. Overall it‘s a great movie to watch if you want to take a picture of ur screen to throw on ur IG story to make ppl think ur mad esoteric and knowledgeable ab late 20th century European cinema.

There's something quite startling about Martin Scorsese's 1980's period compared to the rest of his decades as one of America's greatest filmmakers. In the 80's, he was weird, strange, and making weirdly manic films that feel more New York than even some of his movies about the mob. They're movies about characters who aren't glamarous people that they want to be, but rather, are losers who can't seem to correctly fucntion in normal society. They're non-violent sociopaths. I saw The King of Comedy at Metrograph recently, and it's exhilarating, hilarious, manic, and scary. With Jerry Lewis, Bobby De Niro and Sandra Bernhard, Scorsese was able to create a world where incels who are bad at comedy are wishing for fame. Sound familiar? This is a great movie. In 1983, it was a box office flop. But in 2025, it is magical in how it's telling the future. A future of scam artists who don't want to work to get there, and don't want to sit in their mediocrity: they want to steal to get their fifteen seconds. Go watch this masterpiece.
