nowhere - gregg araki. maybe the greatest film to have ever been conceived. ive talked about him on here before but araki is a true auteur and really had his finger on the pulse with this one (and the rest of his teen apocalypse trilogy) in a way ive not seen anyone replicate. came out in ’97 and still informs so much of whats being created and released today. this was on sam levinsons moodboard in the conception stage of the shit show that was euphoria. if uve been sleeping on him nows the time to wake up - he just casted charli xcx in his next feature.
my own private idaho - gus van sant. more new queer cinema. totally devastating, the first time i watched this i stayed up the entire night afterwards. i couldnt sleep a wink. was just totally haunted. there will never be another soul like river phoenix </3
le diable probablement - robert bresson. peak french existentialism. the first entry in my own personal just like me fr canon. wont say too much but watch it watch it watch it if you u havent already. came out in ‘77 and hasnt aged at all (i mean it!).
chungking express - wong kar wai. a moment of self recognition thru the other. the frequency with which faye wongs character plays california dreaming mirrors in its entirety my own extremely irritating music habits.
