I come back to this interview pretty often. I always love whenever someone pulls back the curtain on an industry they’re a part of. And I know that art should speak for itself, but I do think I enjoyed Laurel Hell more after reading about the time in her life that inspired making it.
“What it came down to was, ‘I have to do this even though it hurts me, because I love it,’ ” Mitski says. “ ‘This is who I am. … I’m going to keep getting hurt, and I’m still going to do it, because this is the only thing I can do.”
I also want to turn this into an ask, if anyone has any interviews that they find insightful or interesting that pop into mind every now and again.
