Cure and Pulse are some of the few modern horror films that really freaked me out. Also Mario Bava and Dario Argento, old Italian horror I love.

Iā€™m still watching them even tho October is over wtf??? I just canā€™t get enough. Recent greats include: Noroi: The Curse (2005) - Found footageā€¦ the climax is so good. Great for fans of ghost/demon stuff. Pulse (2001) - One of my favourite horror movies ever. Worms its way into your being. Some truly terrifying, iconic scenes and imagery, not to mention quite prescient in its message re: online connectivity and society. Really canā€™t sing its praises enough! Ju-On: The Grudge (2002) - A classic!!! Still hits. Quintessential haunted house domestic strife ghost story. Toshio šŸ˜¢šŸˆā€ā¬› Audition (1999) - Probably my least favourite of this batch. Not for the squeamish. Still worth a watch if only for its feminist social commentary. GonJiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) - OK this one is admittedly kinda hokey but itā€™s based off a REAL location and the jump scares are amazing!! Some truly spine-tingling moments. Not recommended just before bed lol šŸ˜¬ (Also found footage)

Dario Argento is an infinitely interesting Italian filmmaker. His films bring me a lot of comfort. He made a lot of whacked-out horror films in the late 70s onward. In terms of the acting in them, theyā€™re not exactly masterclasses but his use of prosthetics in his films are awesome. Heads exploding, almost neon red blood, witches, dolls, a cool monkey. If youā€™re into that kinda thingā€¦ His use of music is great too. The Italian prog-rock band Goblin did the score to a few of his films. When they filmed Suspiria (1977), they actually played the score on speakers as they were filming to freak out the actors and drag them into his world. Whether you like it or not, itā€™ll drag you in too

I normally do not watch any horror movies either outside of October but these are ones I always donā€™t mind firing up. Basically an Italian originated style from the late 60s-early 80s maybe which were about terrible things happening to people shot in the most visually appealing way possible. They can be corny yeah, donā€™t worry about it. Check out Dario Argentoā€™s stuff, heā€™s considered the benchmark/creator of it. Suspiria would be a good one to check out! The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is also good.
