Super charismatic employer who was very good at manipulating people and told the boldest lies with all the confidence in the world. A quintessential snake oil salesman.
The work was cool and the team was great so all seemed good until it was time to get paid. Suddenly it was all problems with the bank, wire delays, promises that it would be done tomorrow etc etc. Most of the team was new so we accepted the delays. It was also early pandemic and pretty impossible to find work. We would get paid in bits and pieces eventually via Zelle, a check, a wire transfer, etc. But the delays got longer and longer.
Very long story short, his payroll tab started piling up and I knew that if I left the job heād never pay me what was owed (I had seen him do it to other colleagues). At the height of things he owed me 20k and by the time the ācompanyā shut down and he fired everyone (he had pocketed enough revenue), I was only owed 2k š

Once I was pretty sure I uncovered an international sex trafficking ring related to a flop beauty pageant I had never heard of and fell down a Google search rabbit hole about it but I didnāt really do anything about it.
In the course and scope of my employment Iāve heard about a lot of people being killed or grievously injured by motorcycle wrecks even with the proper protective equipment and precautions and defensive driving.Ā Ā had their scalps ripped off and their leg bones rip through their skin etc so I would say donāt ride a motorcycle.
In another life I worked as a hostess at a restaurant which was a job my (niche famous post-punk musician) boss made up for me because he was a client of my dad and liked the way I dressed/thought I was cool.Ā Ā Ā Because there was only one hostess people would often ask me if I was his wife or the wife of the chef and I always had to laugh.Ā Ā Ā My coworkers always asked me if I had OCD because I would regularly wash my hands according to food safety guidelines.Ā Ā One of my coworkers (who had a tattoo in honor of our boss) had a nosebleed and left a long trail of blood all through the restaurant which I noticed and cleaned up.Ā Ā He was so grateful that I did it like I did it as a personal favor to him but I was just mortified at the idea of customers seeing it.Ā
I worked at a farmers market and after I left it was discovered that the farmers market manager had been embezzling money and she died not too long after because it turned out she had cancerā¦ so maybe thatās why she did that.Ā

Been having the shittiest job situation for a while. Being paid minimum wage to do a myriad of different things I did not apply to do (only because they asked for my resume and saw I had other skill sets and without asking slowly integrated it into my work load).
Initially because I was more keen on earning the money for a trip I have planned in a month. I just said yes to everything. They slowly started assuming I wasnāt opposed to doing anything and would give me random assignments. This also included messaging me during off work hours to tell me (not ask me) to do workā¦ which I was very shocked by but I thought it was extra money so why not.
They also have this thing where they donāt ask and they assume my colleague and Iād schedules and without asking just tell us the day before to come in for work which is super unprofessional and disrespectful (imo).
Fell sick recently and they managed to somehow send me more work to do while telling me to rest upā¦ which was somehow my final straw (Should have happened wayyyyyy before).
Now I just ignore their messages past a certain time and take my time to do the work. No more 7 day work week and working at ungodly hours. Thereās no credit after all. If youāre being paid minimum wage and the work practice seems unethicalā¦ donāt be like me and set boundaries! (If you have the option to of courseā¦)

I was in fine arts, working as a registrar at a small art conservation business for an insane Russian woman committing tax fraud. While I did get to touch picassoās signature, I also could not pay my bills and spent many days in tears in my bossās sonās bedroom (I worked in her dining room). Now I am unemployed & looking for grant writing/administrative jobs that pay a normal amount of money and have an HR department

Iāve done this every time Iāve found myself between full time jobs and it really makes the whole time better. You have a little money coming in and you can collect material for your future memoir. Some odd jobs from my past:

i found them on big job boards like indeed and also Craigslist (Searching āpart timeā gets you less garbage results). If you hate it after you start you can just quit!
Also if you like pets, signing up for dog walking or petsitting will keep you active and you get to hang out with pets.
