I stumbled upon Idles a few years ago and initially couldnât stand them. Their sound is very specific. Theyâre rowdy. Theyâre all over the place. Theyâre a wonderful anomaly in the music realm.
I liked this snippet from The Rolling Stonesâ review of their album, âDescribing the warm, fuzzy optimism of an Idles record requires only the most pretentious adjectives â ebullience, exultation, jubilation â words that Idles frontman Joe Talbot would likely laugh at heartily before offering a pint to anyone who said them.â
Itâs an album you can dance to, fight to, protest against police brutality to, celebrate the end of the British monarchy to â itâs resistance music if resistance music was played by good looking tattooed guys who occassionally wear dresses. I enjoy the songs Dancer (done with LCD Soundsystem) and Grace the most, but Gift Horse makes me want to riot in the streets and Pop Pop Pop needs a dance remix asap.
Enjoy it. And if you dislike it, youâre wrong. Thanks.
