I stumbled upon Idles a few years ago and initially couldn’t stand them. Their sound is very specific. They’re rowdy. They’re all over the place. They’re a wonderful anomaly in the music realm. I liked this snippet from The Rolling Stones’ review of their album, “Describing the warm, fuzzy optimism of an Idles record requires only the most pretentious adjectives — ebullience, exultation, jubilation — words that Idles frontman Joe Talbot would likely laugh at heartily before offering a pint to anyone who said them.” It’s an album you can dance to, fight to, protest against police brutality to, celebrate the end of the British monarchy to — it’s resistance music if resistance music was played by good looking tattooed guys who occassionally wear dresses. I enjoy the songs Dancer (done with LCD Soundsystem) and Grace the most, but Gift Horse makes me want to riot in the streets and Pop Pop Pop needs a dance remix asap. Enjoy it. And if you dislike it, you’re wrong. Thanks.

I would say this is super listenable Political Punk, but I hate the idea that great bands with normal ideas like equality for everyone are “political”  when really it’s everyone else who is being boring as hell while upholding the status quo. Lambrini Girls are way too musically wild and way too fun to be tied down to all these words anyways. Even better lyrics than Idles and I really like Idles. I know it’s not a competition but if it was
.Take a deep dive into their interviews on YOUTUBE. You will not regret it.

I find their grandeur amazing and very refreshing. Also musically I think that they have created something new which is very rare these days. Then add in Abigail Morris’s voice and it’s an uncontrollable burst of enthusiasm. From what I read they are blowing up the pop charts across the pond. I am not a fan of pop music, and I basically refer to it as pop trash. But not this pop band. Give this album a listen !!!

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight. In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup). Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
