One time I was planning a solo cabin trip and I was worried about how I’d fill the time. What if I don’t make the most of it? Won’t I be bored? Someone told me — the boredom is part of it.
They were right! Being bored is an important part of the human experience. It is necessary suffering. The absence of distractions is more important than anything. It allows the mind to rest and then wander. The absence forces you to confront things you are avoiding. If you want to find a “use” for it, it can prompt creativity. Put the phone down and let yourself be bored. We need it. It’s a process.
