i too have thick layered hair i’m trying to grow out. i’ve been leaning into clips/bows/hair ties to spice things up a bit. a half up half down situation is always fun. i also have bangs, and i usually leave them down. and to your point about it flipping out at the ends, maybe lean into it. i’ve been looking at vintage hairstyles and i think you could like commit to the bit of the flip ya know? bouncy 60s mod style.
just have fun with it, do something weird, who cares? as long as you feel happy about it. i used to be a single hairstyle kinda person. not anymore!

I’ve been growing it out for a couple of years. We started at bixie, did a kind of Winona Ryder in Reality Bites cut, and then during the transitional stages we just did various shags with bangs which I know is kind of played out but it works. now that it’s finally down past like my armpits we’re moving on to long layers with side bangs >:)

for me this will include clips, barrettes, ponytails, pigtails, hair gel, spikes, bows, ribbons, experimental bangs, etc but i love seeing other people's approaches to this. i think the reason i like elaborate hairstyles so much is because they are so expressive and transformative and they communicate a vision for yourself so clearly. it feels good to customize your appearance in such a precise way
