wild chess scene, ample sidewalk seating, might be the only bar I can think of where it’s not gauche to read a book there. normal demographic cross-section (not a yuppie bar). and for god knows why, they put triple sec and campari in all their $7 mixed drinks but it’s cash and cheap, you can also byo pizza from down the street.

This is the coolest bar/speakeasy/venue/lounge in Philly. You go through a storm drain to get into it. They have music, jazz, burlesque, comedy, all kinds of things. Setting is very lux with velvet couches, feels very clean and smells great. Go here and you’ll be shocked like I was.

hands down favorite bar in ny. $8 wine, breakfast till midnight, not over exploited/crowded, never understaffed. just crushed chickpea soup and steak sandwich and salad, reading my book, shawty on her way, happy weekend
