lied about 9/11

grew up in 9/11 town so very aware of it being a thing, but born many a year after 9/11 so people would just talk about it and i didn't want to be left out/seen as stupid for not knowing so for two whole years i just pretended like one day i saw them go down until i told one of my babysitters and she was like "weren't you born in 2006" and then i cried home on the train because i realized that everyone around me knew i was a lying bastard of a child

such a weird one but the distinct memory from the experience was the anti-war conversation between my dad and his friend (two ex marines) that happened in the car after. they remarked on their own exploitation as two young men trying to escape poverty, the cycle of war, and colonization. first time i remember feeling radicalized

i watched it when i was 12 and it made me realize a whole different world exists and that i too could be a part of it. 13 years later i work in touring doing a job i love and that wouldn’t be the case if i didn‘t lay down on the floor of my friend‘s living room and let penny lane show me that it is all happening all the time.
