Just discovered this weird, rich British man and the strange religion he started. Fun to read through the wikipedia. He was an "English occultist, philosopher, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist and mountaineer."

Adorno was 100% right about the occult but, as a practice literary or countercultural, hell, even to see human connection, to produce something, itā€™s cool! This lecture by Grant Morrison sums it up as a practice to experiment, fair warning, it is aggressively 2000s and fantastically weird, but the energy is palpable, wacky as some of the concepts see to be.

insane amount of material in here. Youā€˜ve got rockets, the Great Depression, L. Ron Hubbard, polyamory, Aleister Crowley, the FBI, the forming of multiple cults, cocaine/weed/morphine, Marxism, etc etc Feel like you could do a lot more weird & random shit in the 20th century, but maybe I just need to expand my mind

accidentally joined a group for people interested in gnosticism but i said heck let's see what this is about so i joined their first group seminar... and uhhh sounds like a cult i appreciate spirituality and have beliefs based on psychedelics, crystals and planetary shit that others may find bonkers. i also appreciate using religion and any sort of spirituality as guidance for you to feel better and become a better version of yourself. however the communities like the ones in the seminar are alarming. you should definitely not listen to somebody that claims to know the mysteries of the universe or have some incredible knowledge that they acquired through mysticism. you can learn, meditate and make your own meaning but claiming you're a new prophet of the one true religion, a divine messenger of god, or have any relation to a higher power that is directly communicating + giving directions to the masses through you is wild. this is a pretty basic level ramble, but i see why the in-group quality of a "healing" community is so attractive here. everyone wants to be a part of something especially in this loneliness epidemic, and even more so if it sounds like it's going to improve you mentally or physically. all that is to say just be careful y'all. imma read some climate crisis, psilocybin and sociological substacks now

This is specifically for NYC people. In Ridgewood Queens there is a hole in the wall high quality chocolate shop. Itā€™s run by an eccentric and amazing man named Constantine and his wife. He will talk your ear off for a half an hour about ā€œthe benefitsā€ of chocolate and how itā€™s a panacea for pretty much everything. How big chocolate gives away most of the cocoa butter to the cosmetic industry. Heā€™ll also talk to you about how he asks ChatGPT about chocolate and itā€™s wrong a lot of the time. Youā€™ll then buy a bar even though itā€™s small and $10. But you will go home and have a little piece after dinner and never taste chocolate the same way againā€¦

Ceramic pans are unfortunately not very long lasting, once the coating is damaged you canā€™t really fix it. Most of these pans also lose their nonstick qualities after a while. I suggest investing in a carbon steel or cast iron pan, which can be re-seasoned if damaged. Or stainless steel which is pretty indestructible as far as I can tell. These are lifelong pans!

I did it this morning, meditated, read a short story, watched the sun rise, and then got to work!
