Not only is the album itself an incredibly solid R&B record but when she makes music about the darker deeper tones of a subject??? Whoaaaaa
The harmonies btwn her and James kill me every time I have to start the song over again once he comes on bc it makes my heart STOP

Alright, let's talk Kehlani. Whenever I talk about Kehlani there are 2 elements that stand out to me: Lyrics and background vocals and this album was no exception. From start to finish, her Brandy-inspired harmonies push the compelling stories of love, freedom, and the inherent power of feminine energy and women globally. With heavy collaboration with DIXON, there is much to be said for the production with this project.
The overall vibe of the album I got was "Ladies, I'm single and ready to be outside this Summer. You coming?" and I couldn't love it more.

My top song of the year on Spotify. Over the summer I fell in love with this album and listened to it top to bottom nearly every day. Thrilliam Angels manages to combine so many sonic elements that I love into one cohesive moment that always feels cool. A trend leader not a follower.

If you only know Doja Cat from her hit singles, viral TikTok sounds, and trollish online antics, you might be surprised to learn that she had a deep career on Soundcloud long before she would first boldly declare "bitch, I'm a cow".
As a teenager, Doja would scour YouTube for songs to turn into beats and vocalize over. One such song was Com Truise's Brokendate, which forms the foundation of 4 morant (better luck next time), uploaded to Soundcloud in 2012 when Doja was only 16 or 17 years old. She eventually took down the song, and generally refuses to acknowledge it (likely due to the very personal lyrics), but it recently had an official release under Com Truise (to whom she did not give credit in her initial upload).
As for why I recommend it: this song is just perfect for those late nights when you're in that dissonant state of hurting deeply while being too apathetic to acknowledge or do anything about it. You feel stuck and a bit impulsive and very alone. Damn, no one gets it. Then in a sudden moment of clarity, emotion comes spilling over you. I cry from my eyes to my feet, stairs to the street to the gutters to the seas. You sit in that feeling for a while, but then it washes away, and you're left in your habitual resignation. Sigh... better luck next time. Better luck next time.

Late last year I was saying (as an astrologer and I was looking at the 2024 transits and just things happening in my life) that Summer 2024 is going to feel like soooooo many people coming back to their interests or personality traits that they had when they were younger!!
We're just older, more mature, and now can actually really delve into our niche interests :)
in: wearing sunscreen, early morning walks with friends, yerbamate, skorts, summer playlists curated by friends, abandoning your phone for grass, trying new fruits, sincerity
out: plastic water bottles, sweating, irish exiting (guilty…..), being a pigeon hater (nyc people unleash urself from this fear)
